Mothers Day Fish!
 

I was lucky enough to break away on mothers day for a few hours at one of my favorite walk in and wade areas in Baffin. (She must have really liked her present!) Look at what I was able to catch. There were so many redfish it was not funny. All of them were in the 18-21 inch range and really spooky. Except for this one which was 29 1/2 inches long, 16 5/8 girth and 8.875 pounds on certified scales.
I am pictured wearing a Floating Gadget NecklaceŽ which conveniently carries your hook sharpener, line clippers and hemostats without you even noticing. Your tools are around your neck and are always there when you need them.
 

Yup! This is the fly that fooled the fish. I call it the Ugly Bunny. It is a deviation of the Cactus Bunny but after I tie it is ugly. It is an easy fly to tie and it works. Redfish have poor eyesight but can see contrast and movement well. In the ugly bunny I use the rabbit fur to create more movement and the different colors to create the contrast. My favorite color combination is are orange/black but with this fish lime/black is moving up quickly!

I had fun on a day I did not think I was going to fish.
Luckily, I carry my flyrod just in case something like this happens.
