4/12/03
9th TRIP to Meacom's Pier in 2003
High Island, Texas

Jacks,Reds,Sharks, Oh My!
I will never forget this day!

Fish #1 39" long.
(Not Shown)

Fish #2 41" long.
We were fishing all night long without catching a thing. Our first run was when the sun came up. It was then when we realized we had forgotten the camera in the truck.
Soon after Anthony catches this nice fish.

Due to lack of sleep or wanting to catch a big shark really BAD, Enrique and I decide it was time to paddle out some shark baits. We took this little, nifty craft for a spin. We took over a dozen baits out to likely spots.

Thank GOD the gulf was calm and we made it safely!

Fish #3 42" long.
After a long slow period our luck began to change and I landed my first fish of the trip.

Fish #4 40" long.
Shortly afterwards I catch another!

Then every bodies luck got even better. Check out this picture. It is a school of jackfish feeding 50-75 yards from shore and heading our way. It was total chaos when they went down the length of the pier. There must have been over 20+ fishermen with fish on at the same time. What a site! Lines were crossed everywhere! I had multiple poles going off at the same time. There were redfish, sharks and jackfish landed every time the schools came buy. One guy said he had a tarpon on but I never saw it and it broke off! The schools of feeding fish came buy the pier three times during the day.
What more can you ask for?

Fish #5, 43" long.
During the chaos I catch this one and quickly release it.

Fish #6, 43-1/2" long.
Anthony fights a couple of fish but they break off due to tangling up with other fisherman. I manage to land Mine. Check out Tony and Bobby in the background scrambling to rig back up.

Did I mention we were using a Catchalot® Leader which is now available with a Mustad 14/0 Circle hook for the easy release of these fish!

Check out this TRIPLE!

Fish #7, 45" long, Fish #8, 40" long and a 43 incher at the same time!.
The second time the school of feeding fish came through we managed to land both of our fish. We learned with the first school of fish to use only one pole each. Enrique also landed a nice one. Anthony's fish was fat. It was the biggest fish of the trip. I would say it easily weighed over 35 pounds. Nice fish Anthony!

Fish #9, 41" long and a fat 43 incher!
Jimmy and I hook up onto this double!

There were many instances when we had to land two fish at a time to get the net to someone else!

Fish #10, 37" long and a 40 incher!
Here is another double.

Fish #11, 39" long.
Anthony gets into the action with this nice red.

Fish #12, 40" long and a 38 incher!
Anthony and Jessie get into the double actions themselves!
Check out Rocky in the background hooked up himself!

Fish #13, 40" long.
Check this one out! The action is still HOT and has not slowed down.

Shark #1, 37" long.
Anthony then scores this nice Atlantic Sharpnose.

Fish #14, 40" long.
Here's another one of natures cookie cutter bull redfish I have been fortunate enough too catch.

Jonathan and his dad Jessie Moore with a nice redfish! I hope this is just one of Jonathan's many redfish to come.
You can also see Jonathan on my Kid's Pictures Page!

Fish #15, 39" long.
Charlie and myself with a nice redfish caught on one of Charlie's nice custom poles. This man really makes some nice poles!

Check out Jimmy Downey's crew. These boys are hard core! Good to meet you Joshua, Dylan, Christopher, Jimmy and Zachary. I know we will fish again.
Check out what these boys caught on my Kid's Pictures Page!

Fish #16, 41" long.
After a welcomed break I land this hungry fish!

Fish #17, 41" long.
Quickly afterwards I catch this fish. I am proud to be posing with some soon to be hard core fishermen!

Fish #18, 39" long.
Anthony could not sit still to so he gets himself this fine looking fish.
Let's see that smile!

Shark #2, 39" long.
I hook into this nice Atlantic Sharpnose on a ribbonfish.

Fish #19, 39" long.
Here is the last fish we caught on this trip.

Now for the REPORT!

The weather was sunny, hot and beautiful! The trip was awesome and the weather was awesome! I can't put in words what we saw, smelt and felt on this trip. We were waiting in excitement when the schools of big jacks were working towards us. We could smell the feeding trout in the distance and our muscles were aching when we were fighting these fish. It was great to be out there! I can't remember how many runs we had. It was too confusing to remember. We landed 19 over size redfish that were 37" to 45" long and I think we did not take pictures or recorded some of the fish we caught. It was CHAOTIC out there I tell you! We also landed 2 sharks. I know we lost at least 7 other fish. I had 4 runs on my shark rigs. One was a shark that I long released one was a big stingray that was lost in the pilings. Bait fish were everywhere. We caught plenty mullet and ribbonfish with our cast nets. We did not have the time to fish for bait. The fish were landed throughout the day and night. It was not hard to figure out a pattern, just wait 30 minutes and you were on. We saw redfish, whiting, black drum, jackfish, sand trout and shark caught on different types of bait caught off the pier. We saw two bull sharks caught with the boat out rigs. One was 4'3" long and the other was 3'11" long.
There were at least 60+ redfish, 7 jackfish and 6 sharks caught off Meacom's Pier while we were there. Did i mention that it was AWSOME!

Team C.B.F's scores again!

I thank God for the opportunity!

FISH HARD or STAY HOME with your MOMMY!
