03/4 thru 3/6/03
8th TRIP to Meacom's Pier in 2003
High Island, Texas

Five first TIMERS in one TRIP.
This was really COOL!

Fish #1 42" long.
Caught 1 hour after putting out the first bait.

First TIMER #1 42" long.
While reeling in the first fish Mr. Ortiz asks if we can help him catch his first over sized redfish. It did not take long before my lucky brown rod had a hit. He fought this fish like a champ.
Nice catch Mr. Ortiz!

Fish #2 42" long.
Not 20 minutes later Anthony manages to land the third 42 incher of the night. This school was made up of almost cookie cutter 42 inch fish.

First TIMER #2 10" long.
Andie the youngest member of Team C.B.F. with her first fish ever. She caught it on her trusty Snoopy Pole. This will be the first fish of many. Hopefully they will not be HARDHEADS!

First TIMER #3 44" long.
My buddy Scott asked if it would be possible to get him into a bull red for his birthday. Check out what he caught! It is one fat redfish that went well over 40#'s. This fish had a massive girth on her.
Happy Birthday Scott!

I know your hooked now.

Fish #3 38" long.
Later that night I had a strange hookup that did not fight like a red. It wasn't, check out this Big UGLY!

First TIMER #4 44" long.
While talking to my new friend Jason he says "Man I wish I could catch a big redfish like that!". After a few minutes his reel takes off screaming. With a little coaching and some skillful fish fighting he manages to land this beauty!
The Landalot® landing net really helps to easily land a fish that is still green.

Fish #4, 40" long.
Not to long afterwards Anthony catches this nice looking fish.

Fish #5, 32" long.
While I was at church Anthony manages to catch this LITTLE redfish. We are not counting this fish as a bull redfish because in my opinion a bull redfish or drum is anything 36 inches or over. Nice redfish Anthony. Throw it back so it could get bigger!

First TIMER #5 11" long.
This is the first time Albert catches a gaftop. Johnny convinces him to kiss it for good luck!

Now for the REPORT!

The weather was wet and humid. On saturday the fog/mist never let up the whole day. Sunday was the same but with higher wind. The water was dirty but fishable. We still had a great time catching fish and spending time with friends at Meacom's Pier. In all we had 13 runs and landed 8 over size redfish and one black drum that were from 38" to 44" long. Lost 4 fish at the pilings while netting the fish and 1 to a faulty knot when I set the hook. I guess the boys needed there Daddy to show them how. Bait was a bit hard to catch but had enough to fish with. We caught whiting, croaker and sand trout for bait on small peeled pieces of shrimp on our bait rods. We also caught gafftop and hard heads. The fish were landed throughout the day and night. It was hard to figure out a pattern. We did have 3-4 runs around 3:00 in the morning every night out there. We saw redfish ,black drum, sheepsheads, sand trout, bonnethead sharks and all sorts of bait fish caught off the pier while we were there. Some of the reds and drum were keeper size. I saw a turtle about 30#'s landed and released unharmed. On Saturday there were over 30 little bonnethead sharks caught with shrimp as bait.
We had a total of 5 first timer's on this trip. Well actually 6. This was the first time Anthony caught more fish than I.

I am thinking about becoming a guide, What do you think?

Team C.B.F's has a good time again!

I thank God for the opportunity!

FISH HARD or STAY HOME with your MOMMY!
