4/3/03
7th TRIP to Meacom's Pier in 2003
High Island, Texas

MY BEST 18 HOURS of FISHING EVER!
Over 37 feet of Redfish Caught and released in 18 hours!
And a bonus small shark!

Fish #1 43" long.
It took me about 30 minutes to hook up onto my first redfish of the trip. Hooked him on a piece of squid.

Fish #2 38" long.
An hour after that I hook up to this grunting male.

Fish #3 41-1/2" long.
Another hour passes by before I hook into this fish.

Fish #4 42" long.
Shortly afterwards this fish takes a piece of cut mullet.

All this time passes buy quickly when you are talking with good friends.

Shark #1 39" long.
I could not get to the rod fast enough when this little Atlantic Sharpnose took the bait.
I hooked up to this shark with one of my small rods which had 15# test line. What a fight!

This fish hit at 3:30 in the mourning.

Fish #5, 38" long.
The next fish did not hit until the sun was coming up.
Sorry for the bad picture. It was early!

Fish #6, 39" long.
20 minutes after changing all the baits this beast hits one of my smaller poles. This fish went straight for the pilings. I am glad I was using a Catchalot® leader which is now available with a Mustad 14/0 Circle hook for the easy release of these fish!

Fish #7, 41" long.
It was slow for a while until later in the day when this fish hits a piece of whiting.

Fish #8, 42" long.
I did not have to wait 10 minutes before this one hit the same rod as the fish before.

Fish #9, 43" long.
Buy this time I was getting really tired from not sleeping all night. My buddy Roger yell's, "Your rod is going off!". I told him to take it. While I was helping him land the fish my other rod started singing. I handed the net off and grab my rod. Now this fish was fighting hard. I did not realize how big it was until we had to bring it up onto the pier.
This fish had a huge girth on her. She must have weighed over 40#'s. I am pretty sure this is the biggest fish Team C.B.F has caught this year.
Rogers fish pictured here with me was 38" buy the way.

Fish #10, 41" long.
I had already let 2 fellow fishermen land fish on my gear and thinking about going home when this brute takes a piece of mullet.

Fish #11, 42" long.
I fish with 2 rods for a while and let 1 more fisherman land a huge 44" before I take this fish.

By this time I am beat and really dragging butt so I pack it up.

Now for the REPORT!

The weather was sunny, warm and beautiful. It did get cool late at night. I'm glad I had my cold weather gear. Had a great time catching fish and talking with new and old friends. In all we had 17 runs and landed 16 over size redfish that were 38" to 43" long. I personally landed 11 redfish in less than a 18 hour period. Lost one fish when I could not turn the fish on 30# tackle before they broke off on the pilings. I am pretty sure it was a shark! Why didn't this fish hit the shark rods I had out? I had 2 rods baited with sting ray the whole time I was there without any takers. Fresh bait was hard to come by. I did not catch a whiting the time I was on the pier. We had to make a bait run to catch what we did. The water is warming up but very dirty. The green water is teasing us by staying 100 yards further than my best cast. If you have a yak to put the baits in the green water I know you can catch a big shark. The fish were landed throughout the day and night. It was hard to figure out a pattern. It really never got slow during the trip.

Final total was over 450 inches of redfish and one shark.

I thank GOD for the opportunity!

Thanks Roger for landing my fish and Joel for taking the pictures.
Without you guys this trip would not have been such a success.

FISH HARD or STAY HOME with your MOMMY!
