Team C.B.F Practices C.P.R. - Catch, Photograph & Release!

3/21 thru 3/23/03
6th TRIP to Meacom's Pier in 2003
High Island, Texas

Fish #1 43" long.
Caught 15 minutes after putting out the first bait.
I am beginning to think that the fresher the bait the better your chances of hooking up!

Fish #2 32" long.
Anthony SCORES the first shark for Team C.B.F. in the annual CSF Shark tournament. A fine specimen of an Atlantic Sharpnose.

Roy's Fish #1 40" long.
While helping Anthony with his shark down the pier my rod takes off. I ask my friend Roy to land the fish for me. After a good battle I net the fish for him.
Nice Redfish Roy!

Nice Shark / Redfish Double!

Fish #3 40" long.
We did not have to wait too long before we hooked up onto this fish.

Fish #4, 36" long and Roy's second fish of the night!
We had to wait until dark before we caught our next fish. It was worth the wait because two reels went off at the same time. I could not believe it. Two reels on opposite sides of the pier had a hit at the same time. Both rods were mine and Anthony was getting a bite to eat. I did not know which one to grab first. I took the rod with the lighter line and asked Roy to take the other rod.
We finally landed both fish after a bit of mass confusion.
We were lucky Roy was fishing with us this night!

Fish #5, 42" long.
Anthony shows us his really nice catch. He is becoming one heck of a fisherman.

Did I mention we were using a Catchalot® Leader which is now available with a Mustad 14/0 Circle hook for the easy release of these fish!

Fish #6, 42" long.
I could not let Anthony catch the biggest fish of the trip. So I luckily land this fish.
I do think his fish was heavier though.
Who has the bigger mouth Me or the fish?

Fish #7, 41-1/2" long.
Late at night I was awaken buy this beauty.

Fish #8, 38" long.
After a very, very long wait we hook up onto this stubborn fish.
I was embarrassed how this fish took me around the pier. With the camaraderie and help of the good people that regularly fish the pier all rods were moved so I could fight this fish. We worked like a team and it paid off.

Don't forget that Meacom's pier has an RV park so you can park a camper and stay a while.

Fish #9, 38" long.
After missing 3 fish in a row Anthony finally catches this one.

Fish #10, 41" long.
Anthony takes advantage of me being at church and lands another redfish.

Priscilla was catching all the whiting (bait) we wanted. They ranged from 8 to over 13 inches.

Now for the REPORT!

The weather was sunny, warm and beautiful most of the trip. We did have a light shower on Saturday. I could not keep Andie and Albert out of the water. Maybe that is why Albert did not catch a fish on this trip. In all we had 15 runs and landed 11 over size redfish that were 36" to 42" long and one 32" Atlantic sharpnose. A friend of mine (Enrique) had one heck of a shark run. He was using a 4/0 wide and could not control the shark on 50# test. It took a small sting ray for bait. Bait was very where. We caught plenty of whiting, silver perch and croaker for bait on small peeled pieces of shrimp on our bait rods and in our cast nets. We also caught some large HARDHEADS. The water is warming up and we are seeing more and more sharks. Like last weekend the fish were landed throughout the day and night and it was hard to figure out a pattern. We saw redfish , sheepsheads, shark and all sorts of bait fish caught off the pier while we were there.

Not as productive as the last trip but still one heck of a trip!

FISH HARD or STAY HOME with your MOMMY!
