Team C.B.F Practices C.P.R. - Catch, Photograph & Release!

03/15 thru 3/18/03
5th TRIP to Meacom's Pier in 2003
High Island, Texas

BEST fishing trip EVER!
Over 54 feet of Redfish Caught and released on this one trip.

Fish #1 43" long.
Caught 5 minutes after putting out the first bait.

While reeling in the first fish my second reel (the one I had just thrown out) went off! I set the hook and handed it to the first person I saw. Mr. Johnny Bowman visiting from Hillsboro, Texas fought the fish like a Professional. It was brought to the net quickly. It measured a respectable 41".
Nice catch Johnny!

Fish #2 41" long.
After it got dark I catch this hungry and hard fighting fish.

Fish #3 42" long.
Shortly afterwards Anthony finally catches his first fish of the trip.

Fish #4 41" long.
This fish was supposed to be Albert's but he decided to go eat supper in the camper with his MOMMY!
If you have met Albert you know that he does not miss too many meals.

Fish #5, 41" long.
I was checking a slack line and check out what it was. These fish do not always take out line.

Fish #6, 38" long.
O.K. Anthony show us how happy you are. This fish went straight to the pilings and was wrestled off by a fairly new fisherman. Did I mention he was using a Catchalot® Leader which is now available with a Mustad 14/0 Circle hook for the easy release of these fish!

Fish #7, 41" long.
While I was catching up on my sleep Anthony beats me to the rod to catch this beauty. I do not know if he was happier about catching this fish or beating his dad to the rod?

Fish #8, 40" long.
During a short break in the rain I manage to catch this one.

Fish #9, 39" long.
Shortly afterwards Anthony hooks up into this red. He was fortunate enough to have his mom and sister cheering for him while he was fighting this fish. You can tell that the girls really enjoyed seeing Anthony catch this fish. After this picture the rain started up again and the girls went back to the camper.
Don't forget that Meacom's pier has an RV park so you can park a camper and stay a while.

Fish #10, 39" long.
Here is a nice redfish but the camera was having problems. A quick change of batteries and everything was back to normal.

Fish #11, 41" long.
Albert finally stays long enough on the pier to catch this nice red.

Fish #12, 41" long.
After a lull in the action we manage to pick up this fish on a piece of cut sand trout.

Fish #13, 41" long.
Check this one out! It hit so hard that it knocked down 3 rods. I took out so much line that for a while I thought I may have had a shark. This fish was a perfect example of the species. This was one awesome fish. It was a big male that was croaking the whole time we were taking the pictures.

Fish #14, 45" long.
Here is the biggest catch of the trip. It must have weighed at least 35#'s A healthy fish it was. This picture and the rest from here on are on a disposable camera. I ran out of memory on my digital camera. Don't you hate when that happens?

Fish #15, 39" long.
Here's another one of Anthony's fine catches.

Fish #16, 39" long.
My 10th fish of the trip. What an experience.

The Chapa Family Meacom's Pier spring break 2003!

My family really enjoy's fishing on this pier. It is a family environment and is fun for the whole family. You should have seen the shells that were picked up while the girls were strolling down the beach.

Try to attend the 1st Annual BBQ Benefit on March 21st and 28th. There will be Music, Food and Fishing! It will be fun for the whole family. All proceeds will go to extending the pier.

Now for the REPORT!

The weather was sunny, warm and beautiful when we arrived to misty, rainy, and a cold front blowing through when we decided to leave with everything in between. We still had a great time catching fish and spending quality time with the family. In all we had 20 runs and landed 16 over size redfish that were 39" to 45" long. Lost two fish when we could not turn the fish on 20# tackle before they broke off on the pilings. Bait was very where. We caught plenty of whiting and sand trout for bait on small peeled pieces of shrimp on our bait rods. We also caught some large gafftop. We weighed one that Anthony caught and it went 5.2 pounds. The water is warming up. And we should see sharks soon. The down side was that we also caught allot of Hardheads! The fish were landed throughout the day and night. It was hard to figure out a pattern. I guess you just had to put in your dues to catch one. Ask Albert, he missed several of his turns while goofing off somewhere. We saw redfish ,black drum, sheepsheads, sand trout and all sorts of bait fish caught off the pier while we were there. Some of the reds and drum were keeper size. We saw several jackfish at the end of the pier the day that the surf was calm. I tried to hook one without any success. One of the fish we hooked at night jumped and swam to fast to have been a redfish but since I could not see it too well in the moonlight I will assume it was a red.
Final total of redfish was 651 inches of redfish on this one trip.

Team C.B.F's BEST fishing trip EVER!!!

I thank God for the opportunity!

FISH HARD or STAY HOME with your MOMMY!
