4th TRIP to Meacom's Pier in 2003
High Island Texas

This is why I like going to Meacom's Pier!

My friend Henry brought his grandson Gabriel all the way from Edinberg, Texas to see if we could get him onto his first BULL RED and WE DID. Here he is fighting his fish with a little help from his grandpa.

Fish #1 39 1/2" long
Not bad for for a 7 year old. Pictured here with the gang is Anthony, Gabriel, Albert and Henry in the back. Look at the smiles on these boys. This is what it is all about.

Fish #2, 42" long
I scored early in the morning with this beauty. Waking up to the sound of your reel giving up line is one of the only reasons I like waking up early.

Pictured here are Steve Parker and his son Nicholas. We also tried to get Nicholas onto a BIG REDFISH, but the fish just did not cooperate while they were there. Hey guy's we will fish together again and maybe next time we can hook you up.

This is what it is all about. A father taking his child out to spend quality time with them. I commend you for taking your boy out Steve.

Fish #3, 40" long.
Henry catches himself a really nice looking fish. After a good fight he lands this fish on 17# test line. Way to go Henry.

Fish #4, 41" long.
Later that night Anthony scores his first fish of the trip. This boy is starting to fight fish like a pro. This fish headed straight into the pilings at the end of the pier. Anthony tightened down the drag until he was able to turn the fish then loosened the drag for the remainder of the fight. He must have been paying attention when I did that to a fish that did the very same thing.

Henry and Gabriel enjoying themselves while waiting for the next big run.
At about 1:30 in the morning everybody except Anthony and I head for the rental room and hit the sack.

Fish #5, 38" long.
It is now about 3:30 in the morning and after a long wait I finally hook up into this feisty red. The way she was fighting I could have sworn she was bigger. This fish would have been Albert's fish if he would have stayed awake!

Fish #6, 40" long.
Shortly afterwards Anthony hooks up into his second red of the trip.

Fish #7, 43" long.
Here is the biggest catch of the trip. A healthy fish it was. Fought like a champ on 20# test. I really like a good fight.

Fish #8, 36" long.
Last fish of the trip. I was getting worried that after driving ALL the way from Kingsville, Texas that my good friend Ronnie would not have anything to show for his efforts. I was so relieved when we got his fish into the net. I was getting a little disappointed that he had not caught anything except bait. My prayers were answered and my goal of getting all my guests onto a BIG REDFISH were accomplished when this fish was landed. Pictured with Ronnie is the whole gang, I'm glad you came and fished with us.

Meacom's Pier came through for me again!

Now for the REPORT!

The weather was from Misty and horrible on Friday night to Sunny, warm, and beautiful on Sunday morning with everything in between. We still had a great time catching fish and visiting with friends. In all we had 12 runs and landed 8 over size redfish that were 36" to 43" long. Lost one fish when she wrapped around the pilings and could not get her off before the line broke. Bait was very where. We caught plenty of whiting and sand trout for bait. Some whiting were big enough to eat. The water must be warming up. The down side was that we also caught Hardheads! Most fish were landed at night or early morning. It was slow during the day. We saw redfish ,black drum and all sorts of baitfish caught off the pier while we were there. Some of the reds and drum were keeper size.

I don't think we could have asked for anything better except for winning the Lotto on Saturday!

FISH HARD or STAY HOME with your MOMMY!
