Billy Sandifer's Beach Clean Up!
P.I.N.S., Texas

Fish #1 thru #23
Shortly after we stopped cleaning the beach we took out our bait rods to see if we could catch anything fresh. We caught as many whiting as we needed on small pieces of shrimp. Final count when we got home was 23. That does not include all the fish we used for bait.
Albert caught one that was 19" long. Talk about a Bull Whiting.

Fish #?
After moving around to find that perfect spot we finally managed to catch this 35" redfish.
Albert is my 150# 5'3" eleven year old, just to give you a reference to the size of the fish.
I caught this fish on a piece of whiting Albert caught me on my lucky Fenwick rod. Albert and I went down the beach until we reached the Port Mansfield Jetties. I did not plan to spend the night there but I did not want to drive back down the whole stretch of beach in the dark. We fished the channel without even getting a bite. We also lost ever leader/weight setup we threw out. I was told later that we should have gone further down the channel to get away from the rocks. That's fishing. Albert is holding this fish because the pictures he took had the fish and my head cut off. He will eventually learn how take better pictures.

Now for the REPORT!

Took too long at Anthony's game to make it to the beach at a reasonable time, so I decided to leave in the morning. Woke up around 3:00 am to get an early start. The weather was continually getting worse as we approached Corpus. Those of you that were at the cleanup know what I mean. I had a hard time finding bait at all the old bait shops I used to visit. After we found good bait we headed to the cleanup only to be 30 minutes late. We followed the second group to the 22 mile mark and started to clean the beach. It was amazing how many people were out there and how much trash was picked up. The beach actually looked cleaner as we drove back home.

Overall we had 1 run and landed 1 over size Redfish, plus a good supply of bait for the next couple of trips.

It was good to be able to put faces to names of the people I see posting at the various message boards out there. It was also good to see new and old friends that I have not seen in a while.
