2/1/03
1ST 2003 TRIP to Mitchell's Cut
Matagorda, Texas

After a long morning of nothingness I had to break the ice with this redfish.
Fish #1, 44" long.
Albert was too slow getting to this pole.

Albert tried to get into the action but all he kept catching were these.
Are they tasty or should I used them for shark bait?
Between the three of us we landed 11 sting rays. I kept a few for shark bait.

Fish #2, 42" long
I luckily was standing near this rod when it went off.
This fish was heavy. It must have been on steroids.
I struggled holding this baby up.
I guess it weighed about 25-30 pounds.

Fish #3, 43" long.
After a long foot race with Anthony to the last pole,
he was fortunate enough that DAD let him get this fish.
This fish was even heavier than mine. Who knows what they have been eating.
I figure this fish weighed well over 30 pounds. Maybe pushing 35#'s?

Now for the REPORT!

It was beautiful out there and had a great time with my boys. We had 4 runs and landed 3 over size redfish that were 42" to 44" long. We were using crab, squid, mullet, shrimp and Whiting for bait. We had a buffet for those redfish. They preferred the mullet and whiting. The water is still very cold. Sting rays were everywhere. Be carefull out there. The tide was extremely low when we drove down the beach. We had to move the rod holder 3 times during the day. We arrived around 9:00am and left about 9:30pm and fished hard the whole day.
I say it was worth it.
